It is very important that you set up a unique SSID and security key for your CenturyLink to maintain secrecy. Setting an easily hack-able passkey can interfere with your wireless connection security. Change Your CenturyLink Network Name

Follow these steps to change the SSID username of your wireless network:

  • Make sure the device you are using is connected with the wireless internet for which you are making the changes.
  • Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.0.1.
  • On your modem’s GUI login page, sign into your wireless account with admin username and password. Click on Apply to sign in.
  • On the home page of wireless modem, click on Wireless Setup.
  • Click on 2.4GHz on the left screen.
  • Now click on Wireless Security and Select the username you want to edit.
  • Select your preferred Security Type.
  • Opt for Both in the encryption type.
  • On the next screen, if you select Default, your wireless username will be changed to its primary one on which it was set up initially.
  • Click on Custom to set a unique username for your CenturyLink wireless.
  • Make sure your username includes
    • Between 8 – 63 characters
    • A numeric number between 0 – 9
    • A capital letter
    • A special character or space key
  • After setting your SSID username, click on Apply and your new wireless name will be set.

Change Your CenturyLink Security Key/Password Name

 Follow these steps to change your CenturyLink wireless password:

  • Make sure the device you are using is connected with the wireless internet for which you are making the changes.
  • Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.0.1.
  • On your modem’s GUI login page, sign into your wireless account with admin username and password. Click on Apply to sign in.
  • On the home page of wireless modem, click on Wireless Setup.
  • Click on SSID which you can find in the left-side menu bar.
  • On the Select the SSID (Network Name), opt for your network for which you want to make a change.
  • Select your Broadcast SSID.
  • Opt for the security type you want.
  • Click on Authentication type and select your desired type. Set it on Open.
  • On the next screen if you select Default, your password will be set to its initial one.
  • Opt for Custom to change your CenturyLink passphrase.
  • Click on either 64 bits or 128 bits and set your new password. It should be 
    • For 64 bits – enter 10 characters
    • For 128 bits – enter 26 characters
    • Characters from A-Z and numbers from 0 to 9

Click Apply and your new security key will be set.
